Now very much an annual event – the M&S Golf Day

Last year’s M&S golf day at Canmore Golf Club was a rip-roaring success, generating lots of money for the two charities we supported in 2015 and, equally notably, featuring not just one but two holes-in-one.  There was a lot to live up to in 2016…!

Our third annual golf day was held on 17th of June at Forrester Park near Dunfermline and just like last year the weather was dampish at the start but improved throughout the day.  The numbers attending have increased each year and as a result this year’s charity, The Fighting Chance Project (Scotland), received a splendid cheque for £2,945 from direct donations and a further £300 after gift aid was reclaimed from HMRC.

The cheque was recently presented to Jim Feenan, the founder of the charity, by Stewart McKinnon of M&S Accountancy and Taxation Ltd, at a ceremony held at Woodmill High School.  Check out the following link http://fightingchanceproject.scot/2945-cheque-from-ms-accountancy/.  Stewart mentioned that it was great to see the kids so enthusiastic and also spoke to staff at the school who confirmed the difference the charity had made to the pupils’ level of engagement.

As to the golf itself, after last year’s heroics, West End Garage Skoda put up a Skoda Fabia as a prize for a hole in one but lightning did not strike twice - although one doughty competitor got within 18 inches of triggering the insurance policy!

The general consensus was the Forrester Park venue was excellent, the course played well, the food was fine and we all had a good time – even those of us who perhaps didn’t play to our best.  Amongst a large range of prizes, the day’s Bandit of the Day was Steven Anderson of St Johnstone FC, while the leading individual score was 75 (gross) by Russell Patterson for the men and 106 (gross) by Alison Gray for the ladies and the winning team was The Luncarty Hackers.  The latter received a claret-jug style trophy, donated by one of our clients – thePotentMix.

That trophy will become an annual prize, reflecting how well each of our successive golf days has gone.  We’d like to thank everyone who came and took part and also all our sponsors (listed below but especially West End for their major backing) and friends for the many prizes and donations.  Thanks also to our very own Cally Wilkinson who every year puts so much work into the organisation of the day.  As stated, this is now very much an annual event and we’re already planning next year’s, which, barring any major change of plan, will once again be at Forrester Park.
